Rubicon has charcoal filtered Reverse Osmosis water which is high quality, and avoids all those plastic bottles. Rubicon has re-usable Tervis tumblers (instead of bottles) with a different marine animal on each one so easily identifiable. If you wish to ´go green´ and help the environment Rubicon is a good choice of charter yacht. No need for A/C as you can experience the breezes from the tradewinds as with open hatches and electric fans they are usually quite sufficient to keep you cool.

CAPTAIN: ADAM DREFFIN
Adam was born in the Exumas aboard the boat of his parents. He was a real water baby. He shot his first lobster at age 6. As a youth, Adam would disappear into hidden coves with his brother, trolling for fish while handling a sailing dinghy. He explored everywhere and is familiar with every island. His passion for the Bahamas is evident.

Adam´s parents, along with his younger brother Warren, all set off for a world cruise on their sailing boat once the boys reached teenage years, so Adam is also very widely travelled to many exotic parts of the world. When they reached Australia the boys went to school and college there, whilst their parents continued their cruise back home to the Bahamas.

Summers during school, Adam captained catamarans for Broadreach Sailing School in the French West Indies with high school kids aboard. He´s also captained large yachts in New England and delivered vessels from the Mediterranean. He has run charters aboard Rubicon for several years in Exumas, Bahamas.

Adam holds an MCA Master of Yachts 200 Tons. In addition to being a highly skilled captain, he is an avid sportsman on the water. He kite-surfs, windsurfs and relishes catching game fish while trolling between islands. He is also certified as a Sivananda yoga instructor.

CHEF/HOSTESS REBECCA GARCIA:
Rebecca Garcia’s friends call her Becky, and describe her as good fun, lively and a tireless worker. She’s also an extraordinary cook with an extensive repertoire of recipes. She has run many kitchens, large and small, worked in five-star restaurants and cooked aboard yachts for some 25 years. It all began in the kitchens of her two Grandmothers, one English and one Spanish, when she was so small she couldn’t reach the table without a stool.

Becky spent her childhood in London, her teens and early 20s in Donegal, on Ireland’s rugged, northwest coast, and summers with Dad and his family in Spain. She did a lot of amazing things. Her “very hardy life” on a small Irish island in the North Atlantic required commuting by row boat in very cold, rough water. She worked with the Irish Civil Defense ambulance emergency team. She helped a master boat builder construct a Viking ship. She achieved diplomas in holistic massage, anatomy and physiology, reflexology and courses in Reiki.

Becky says, “I love fresh, healthy food, especially colorful vegetarian dishes with delicious sauces, and Mediterranean cuisine. Guests rave about my homemade bread, tasty pastas, fresh fruit salads, cakes and puddings.” In addition to cooking great meals, Becky might find time to chat about her family’s 1911 50-foot Norwegian gaff-rigged ketch, or her three Atlantic crossings, or the big posh yacht in Guatemala with an owner who accidentally threw himself overboard. With Becky as your chef and hostess, your charter adventure in the Bahamas could include delightful ingredients you never even imagined.

9-16 April, 2022 in the Exumas

We enjoyed an amazing week of fascinating and unique experiences too.
Brief summary: the experience exceeded John and my expectations. We BELIEVE our nephews (one found a lovingly well read paperback of DOVE on the bookshelf and read it throughout the week…telling!). Adam instructed the 3 of them to kite surf…all 3 thrilled with the opportunity.

Adam and Sophie …truly a dream team. For certain they have been working together for several years now although each individually is caring and kind as well as skilled, competent and responsible in what they do.

Thank you too Marilyn for all your help and guidance.
After all these years- WE DID IT WITH THE FINAL 3 NEPHEWS-!

Comments from the Broker - July 28 - Aug 4, 2021 ~ Georgetown, Exumas

They had a wonderful charter, and Capt. Adam was kind enough to send me a picture of them lounging on the foredeck, and let me know they arrived. I’m very grateful for his communications with us as well as with the Charterer.

July 28 - Aug 4, 2021 ~ Georgetown, Exumas

Boat was well maintained for age and clean. Food was well prepared, diverse and tasty, light and met our expectations. We enjoyed the areas we cruised. The most memorable was Kiteboarding in Elizabeth Harbor, and the beautiful beaches. We would definitely recommend this charter to our friends and family. The services were excellent!

June 22 - 28, 2021 - Bahamas - Georgetown, Exumas *****5 STARS*****

Adam and Sophie were enormously friendly and helpful. Adam was extremely knowledgeable about the area. The yacht was extremely clean with nice bedrooms and comfortable seating arrangements and good ventilation. The food was wonderful and plentiful. Lots of freshly prepared, delicious food was available during the day. The areas we sailed were beautiful! It was everything we anticipated and more. Adam answered our questions about the local history, too, which was wonderful.
This trip to the Bahamas is something I´ve always wanted to do, and my son and I could not have picked a better crew or boat for this experience.
Thanks again!

March 27 - April 3, 2021 - Bahamas

We enjoyed a lot our family week. We would certainly recommend their service and the yacht was clean and nicely decorated. Well maintained as well, with Sophie-s little decoration touch. We used snorkels, paddle and kite surfs. Both Adam and Sophie were great and patient kite instructors. The food was great and fresh. Nice presentation and Chef Sophie used fresh and healthy food. Captain Adam and Sophie were friendly and helpful. Super knowledgeable and attentive to the safety and to ensure we were not missing any thing. We want to go back! The itinerary and pace were excellent and ideal. We were glad to sail from Georgetown to Staniel Cay.

March 20 - 25, 2021 - Bahamas - 5 Stars!!

The crew was absolutely amazing. Adam and Sophie were the perfect hosts and exceeded all our expectations. Their hospitality is unparalleled. The yacht was well appointed, comfortable with all the necessary amenities and beyond. There were great breezes all day and evening. The food was beyond anything we expected. I live a Keto lifestyle so Sophie prepared wonderful meals that met my dietary needs along with fabulous meals for my husband. Everything served looked and tasted like it came from a four star restaurant. The area we sailed was absolutely breathtaking. One of the most beautiful places on earth.

My husband and I had wanted to charter a yacht for 15 years in the Bahamas and we finally did it, so this was our first charter ever. We really didn´t really know what to expect however we knew it would be a very special vacation. Wow does even begin to describe our trip. The Bahamas is a vey special place and we can´t wait to go back. It may have been our first time, but certainly not our last trip. Our crew, Adam and Sophie, made us feel immediately welcome and it didn´t take long before we knew we had made life long friends. I can´t image doing another charter in the Bahamas unless its with them. They made every effort to accommodate our needs as indicated on the survey we completed prior to sailing and absolutely nailed it! Actually the went above and beyond and made us feel so special. This vacation will live in our memories forever.

From the Broker:
Thank you so much Adam and Sophie for making my client´s dreams come true!! It has been a pleasure working with you and I hope to continue to do so as often as possible.
Warm Regards,
Ellen

November 9 - 15, 2019 ~ Many wonderful memories!

The crew was friendly and accommodating, Adam and Sophie were great we had everything we needed. The yacht was comfortable and clean. The yacht was well ventilated, we had a fan in the cabin but did not need it much with sea breezes coming in the port vents. The food was excellent and we enjoyed the presentation. We loved the area wish we could have seen more!

My wife Debbie said it was the best vacation that we have taken and I agree! Adam and Sophie were great we enjoyed their company and shared many things with each other of our life experiences. We saw lots of wildlife. Dolphins came a swam with us in front of the boat for several minutes. While snorkeling we saw sting rays and sea turtles as well as numerous fish! And who could not enjoy the most beautiful water in the world not to mention gorgeous sun rises and sunsets, even a full moon one night! Adam caught a Mahi-Mahi fish which was prepared an we ate. Many wonderful memories we have to cherish the rest of our lives!!

May 21, 2019 - 25th Wedding Anniversary

Adam was very accommodating with our requests and very knowledgeable. He worked very hard to ensure our trip was special and memorable. 4/5
Sophie is an incredible baker. Her daily fresh breads were a treat! Her chicken was a little overcooked but overall a great cook. Her fish dishes were also wonderful even the cracked conch which I had my doubts about. 4/5
We rated the yacht (comfort, features, general maintenance, etc) 4/5
We qualified the sports and leisure activities/equipment on board as a 4/5 (although maybe add some extra floating devices) (Adam - yes we shall add to Rubicon)
We qualified the food and drinks as 4/5
Adam could come up with a couple more daily drink specials. We are mostly a beer and wine group so we were happy. (Adam - no problem I can certainly add a few more choices!)
We qualified the entire experience of our trip as 4/5. We had some rainy weather that put a damper on a couple days but it was of no fault to the crew.
Adam and Sophie made our 25th wedding anniversary special and memorable. I can´t thank them enough for the amazing experience and for being so accommodating with all our requests.

11-18 July, 2018 - Enjoyed Every Minute!

We enjoyed every minute right down to sleeping under the stars on the trampoline. The whole trip was very relaxing. The yacht was clean and well maintained. There was plenty of room since we were just two passengers. We used the paddle boards and the snorkeling gear. The diving was amazing. The chef did a wonderful job with the meals and was very keen to our eating habits.

The captain was very experienced with sailing and quite knowledgeable with the area. He seemed to have a real understanding of exactly what we wanted to see and do. The crew also made our trip one to remember with the delicious meals and enjoyable socializing. We enjoyed their interaction and getting to know them. It was hard to say good by at the end of the trip. Just exactly what we were wanting. Relaxed, away from the crowds, quiet, and a real experience with some of the local culture.

We want to just let Captain Adam and his cook Jenn know that we will always treasure the experience we had on Rubicon. It was a special time getting to know them. The Bahamas are beautiful, but their hospitality was the icing on the cake. Thank you again!

1-8 May, 2018 ~ A Memorable Experience!

The cruise was wonderful. The weather was very variable. A lot of squalls with rain, choppy waters and two nights of lightning, thunder, winds and rain. Most of the days had combination of sun and clouds which worked out fine.

Captain and chef were very courteous, knowledgeable and attentive to any request. The captain, Adam Dreffin was extremely knowledgeable about the area. He was able to plan the days according to the weather, currents and times of tourist boats coming to the different sites. Because of this we were able to avoid crowds and enjoy each spot. We hit all the tourist places and more. Because of the planning we were also able to make the most of the sunshine when available.

Our chef, Jen, was enthusiastically health conscious. There was plenty of food and it was flavorful and filling and varied. Adam was very relaxed, friendly and knowledgeable.

The yacht was comfortable, and clean. The itinerary was more than we expected. Adam was able to fit two or three destinations into one day (without seeming rushed). We were able to fit snorkeling into most days. Adam kindly agreed to let Michelle and Mike scuba off the boat and got four tanks for them. They were able to scuba three times while the rest of us snorkeled.

November 21, 2017 ~ Hooked on Sail Chartering!

Adam was terrific. Very accommodating and friendly. Quite knowledgeable about
the area and secluded spots to go. Jen was awesome. Gifted at creating unique food combinations using common ingredients. Crew was 5 Star!

Yacht: Older boat, but very comfortable and functional.
Itinerary: A great combination of remote, secluded spots and a couple of stops in ´civilization´.
Sports & Leisure: Kayak and paddle boards were excellent. Snorkel and spearfish gear fine as well.
Loved being able to troll for fish off the stern while under sail (caught four fish, one was delicious!).
Food & Drinks: Adam makes a great gombay smash. Jen´s appetizers were fantastic.

We are now officially hooked on sail chartering!

D.

14-20 October 2017 - Great Trip!!

Great trip.
Adam and Jen are such nice people. Scenery unmatched!
Thanks for arranging.

5-12 August, 2017 ~ Fantastic!!

How was your overall experience? Fantastic. Would love to go back.

Did the crew live up to your expectations? I really had no expectations but Adam and Jen were unbelievably welcoming and accommodating. We all made new friends

How would you describe the food and drinks? Fish is good but not at every meal.

Were you involved in planning the itinerary? We just went with the flow, it was great.

What did you like most about your charter? Blue water everywhere and the crew.

Would you recommend this yacht and crew to your friends? Absolutely

Can you give me any hints as to how I can provide my clients with an even better experience? Good sun lotion is a must and a long sleeve shirt is a good idea too. Don’t bring half the clothes you think you need.

Is there anything in particular you wish you had known in advance? August is off season in the Bahamas so restaurants are not well stocked. Georgetown is a rather impoverished area (Friendly people but not much to do)

Is there anything else I should know? Adam was raised on the water and grew up in the Exumas, his knowledge of the area is outstanding.

Would you recommend chartering a yacht or boat to others, now that you have done it yourself? Yes

Brian

5-11 August, 2017 – Life Changing!

My dearest Adam,

To say this trip was AMAZING would be an understatement! It was life changing! Every part of my being has been touched and my life is altered forever. Thank you is not enough. I am forever grateful that we made this trip. You hold a place in my heart forever!

God Bless you always, with love,
Nancy Z
P.S. Thank you for Jennifer.

Dear Adam,
Words can’t express our gratitude for all you did to make this an unforgettable 50th birthday for me. It is on that will be fondly remembered for the rest of my life.

We enjoyed talking, laughing, and learning with and from you. Your knowledge is appreciated as well as your kind demeanor. We are so fortunate to have been able to meet such a wonderful and kind soul.

Sincerely your friends,

July 24 - 31, 2016 ~ Extraordinary Adventure!

Guestbook entry: Many thanks to Adam and Tina for a fabulous week in paradise!! The food was extraordinary as was the snorkeling, sailing, adventures, and the weather! We loved hearing their stories of sailing the world and getting to know their whole wonderful family! Their adventures may leave a small footprint behind, but they left a large footprint on our hearts! Happy sailing! Love, Jill and Ernie❤

Feedback to Broker: The crew was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and accommodating. I cannot sing my praises high enough for Adam and Tina. Adam was a highly skilled captain with excellent knowledge of the area we cruised. He knew when and where to go for drift snorkeling, and as a result our snorkeling experience was better than any previous trip. Tina was a friendly and joyful host.

The Rubicon was comfortable, clean and well ventilated. I liked the fact that each cabin had its own head. The Rubicon was the perfect mix of performance and comfort.

Tina was a great hostess and cook. I ate better on the boat than I eat at home. Tina manages the difficult mix of preparing food the tastes, great but is healthy as well. I usually put on weight during vacation and did not on this one, but I ate like a king. Fresh baked bread, muffins and much more.

The Exumas this time of year is just amazing. I have traveled the Caribbean for many years and the best beaches and water is in the Exumas. The crew has cruised these waters for many years and they have extensive knowledge of where to go and what to do. Adams was well connected with the local people and this made for a great experience. A real bonus of going this time of year (July) is that no one is there. We had all the beaches and anchorages to ourselves.

July 15 - 19, 2016- Bahamas ~ Amazing & Wonderful!

Bahamas Days at Rubicon: It was amazing and wonderful because we felt the nature experience. We loved swimming and exploring the islands.
Adam was a wonderful captain and Tina...oh, Tina!!!! Super Tina. We loved her. She cooks so well and made us feel comfortable. She was so sweet with us, and funny too. Both made us remember this trip...

This was the best vacation we had all year! Thanks for all!

May 1-9 2016, Exumas - A Great Time!

We had a great time. Adam´s great local knowledge is a major advantage in finding snorkeling spots. I´m happy to say that we have never had a bad snorkel on Rubicon. His mate, Val, is lovely and a very good cook. They were very accommodating with our desire for a late dinner hour.

Overall a great week in the Exumas. Adam was even able to procure some additional Conch for us so we had several opportunities to enjoy it during the cruise.

May, 2013

We had never been to the Bahamas before, so we were astounded at the abundant sealife and beauty of the Exumas. The remote anchorages were calm and scenic, and nature walks ashore introduced us to the incredible bird life. Our favorite adventure was taking the dinghy ride through the mangrove creeks. I never knew there could be so many turtles up there. The clarity of the water was just amazing. The best part was feeling the enthusiasm and love that Captain Adam had for the Exumas. We loved hearing island stories over some fantastic meals in the cockpit at night. Everything was wonderful, clean and more than we expected. Thanks for sharing your world with us!

April, 2013

When you said we might be able to swim with dolphins, turtles, sharks and rays, I wasnt sure you could pull it off. But wo! Watch out what you ask for! Good thing I have the photos you took with your underwater camera to show jy family and friends back home. They didnt believe me until I pulled out the one with the big turtle. What a wild day that was! The snorkeling was our favorite part of the trip, next to excellent meals on Rubicon. The reefs were colorful, fish were in good numbers and the anchorages pristine. When they say Bahamians are some of the friendliest people in the world, its true! We really liked the bar and food at Staniel and Chat n Chill.

Feb. 2012

The crew on Rubicon were engaging & interesting. Adam´s life experience aboard boats was impressive. Everything on the boat worked perfectly. Though we arrived with no particular agenda, we appreciated the suggestions of Capt. Adam. We hadn´t taken much time to research the endless possibilities of destinations in the Exumas and Out Islands. We were lucky to come upon Rubicon. The opportunity really feel the islands seemed personal and passionate to Capt. Adam. His knowledge and kindness was especially appreciated. The crew´s good sense of humor was grand in all ways too! Overall, such a fantastic week! Thanks for the fun times!

My wife petting a shark. Thought Id never see the day for that to happen! So, thanks for all the wild and fun adventures aboard Rubicon. Capt. Adams knowledge of the Exumas made our charter week very special. His enthusiasm was evident. We liked his flexibility and sweet disposition. The crew kept us laughing at our hesitation to get out there and really play with sharks, stingrays. Were pasting the photo in our office cubicle at work. Just to remind us where we want to go next year. Take us to another Out Island! We want to see more of the Bahamas!
Cheers, A.J.
