Vivo Crew Profile
Dropping everything in your life and sailing away to a distant exotic paradise is a thought many people have from time to time; Vivo´s Captain Kyle took an idyllic daydream and made it a reality. After purchasing a classic sailboat, Summerwind, in New York he took on the arduous and extensive task of repairs and restorations. Waving good-bye to his home port of Charleston, South Carolina his expedition to explore the Caribbean and the world began; but he decided to compete for the Guinness record for the slowest trip around the world so they are in no rush!
Captain Kyle grew up on boats and the nautical life became his passion. His mother is a hundred ton masters captain as is Kyle´s grandfather. He comes from a long lineage of sea-faring folk and spent the majority of his childhood and teenage years apprenticing aboard various vessels. Sailing the Bahamas in his teenage years Kyle quickly became aware that he wanted to make sailing and traveling his life ambition.
Leaving Charleston in March of 2014, he sailed extensively throughout the Bahamas and spent a good bit of time in the out islands before exploring the Providenciales of the picturesque Turks and Caicos. The next stop on his unbeknownst path was the Dominican Republic; he lived in Luperon for a year and ventured through a majority of the country via motorcycle and Jeep. As charming as the DR was, Summerwind was not ready to grow an eco system on her hull, so Puerto Rico was next! Sailing the south shore brought some fantastic fishing and beautiful sights.
Throughout his travels he has made friends, sampled interesting cuisines, and partaken in cultural celebrations. Realizing he had some substantial repairs to attend to on Summerwind, St Croix, USVI became their place of residence for six months until he could sail to their next island St. John, USVI. It is at this point that Kyle was hired to be the next crew of Vivo, as his knowledge of the islands, adventurous spirits were considered to be the ideal assets for a captain serving charter guests.
Katie comes from the Chicago area in the Midwest with a great passion for food, travel and an active lifestyle. She grew up near the lake and would spend summers on the Illinois River and Lake Michigan. She spent a year studying abroad in France, where she truly developed a love of cooking and French wine. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a BA in French and Francophone studies. After college, she spent her time teaching yoga and fitness classes in Chicago as a 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher as well as a Personal Trainer. Katie yearned for more travel in her life though, so she moved to NYC in 2013 to work as a flight attendant for a major global airline. Traveling the world has allowed her to experience many flavors and cultures all across the globe. Katie speaks French, Spanish, Italian and Brazilian Portuguese. She enjoys creating dishes that are both flavorful, unique and healthy, by using fresh, local ingredients whenever possible. Katie is delighted to share her passions with guests to create an unforgettable adventure aboard Vivo.

No Better Crew!
Captain Kyle and Annica
We could not have asked for a better crew on this adventure. Your knowledge, flexibility, adventurous spirits, and sense of humor made for an exceptional week. Thank you for skillfully guiding us and keeping us safe and well fed. We definitely feel like you are part of the family! We wish you safe voyages ahead and easy-going charters (but none as fun as us!) We can´t wait to do this all again next year! We love you guys!
Cannot Thank You Enough!
You run the ´loosest´ ´tight´ ship in the BVI!! We cannot thank you enough for all the stops that you and Annica pulled for us on our trip. Your experience was obvious and your love for the sea made each day special. Every day Annica put ´10 pounds of sugar in a 5 pound bag´ in the galley- wonderful!!! We loved every day, every rule, and everybody on board! The goal of these trips -for us- is coming out better people on the other side and this trip did NOT disappoint. Once again- Thank you!
Shown us the true meaning of Vivo!
You have shown us the true meaning of VIVO this week From waking up near secluded beaches, jumping off exhilarating cliffs, swimming in crystal clear waters, to slinging off dinghy lines, we have loved every filled moment. ´Very nice time, eh?´ We look forward to planning the next adventure with you to officially Tie the KNOT!
Superlatives for Captain Kyle and First Mate Katie
We met Kyle and Katie around 7 pm and boarded our home for the next eight nights, Catamaran Vivo. Vivo has the distinction of having sailed around the world twice. She is a big Boat, 62 feet and 38 tons. Talk about feeling safe! Captain Kyle was meticulous in his safety briefings as well as his daily efforts to ensure that our experiences were exemplary. He is passionate about sharing his love of sailing and always suggested additional activities relative to hiking, snorkeling, or beach combing. Captain Kyle is a Master at mixing Painkillers and we had to keep sampling just to ensure that each batch was as good as the last!
Captain Kyle is professional, dedicated, easy-going, calm, and has a great sense of humor. He was complimented during our Charter at all times by First Mate Katie. Katie has worked as an International Flight Attendant on a major airline and exemplifies excellent interpersonal skills. Katie has a flair for international cooking and fresh spices. For my Birthday Dinner, we ate surrounded by balloons with a meal featuring Lobster Linguini and topped off with a Tres Leche Cake. Strongly recommend Catamaran Vivo Superlatives for Captain Kyle and First Mate Katie. Already planning a return trip!

Wished We Could Have Stayed Longer!
I recently chartered with Vivo for 6 days and 5 nights in the BVI. A friend and I stayed on board Vivo and had an amazing time. The service and attention we received from Alicia and Kyle was beyond our expectations. Both of them were very knowledgeable of the area and helped my friend and I (New Yorkers) warm up to life on the sea! Joanna F
