Magic Inspiration Crew Profile
Captain Jeffrey T Ludlam
Jeffrey grew up in the quaint, New England fishing towns of Swampscott and Marblehead, Massachusetts. These picturesque seaside towns, with great beaches, fishing and diving, were his natural inspiration. Jeffrey grew up on boats, piloting his own ocean boat when he was just 12 years old. He was also an avid scuba diver, water skier and fisherman. When he was not out on the ocean, he was perfecting his many other hobbies including tennis, golf, winning many Karate trophies and the basketball state championship.
Jeffrey’s lifelong passion for boating made a career in the marine industry the optimal choice. A friend offered him a position as a yacht broker in Marblehead, which lead to an executive position in the manufacture of marine equipment. After the company was sold he was welcomed back to the broker business. He worked as a sales manager and product manager for the renowned French builder, Fountaine Pajot. Based on in-depth knowledge and experience, Jeffrey knew that the Bahia model was their absolute best catamaran afloat. So, in 2010, when he decided to launch his own charter operation, the Bahia was the obvious choice.
Creating a spectacular charter vacation for guests is a skill that Jeffrey has perfected. Of course, Jeffrey has the technical qualifications; a commercially endorsed MCA 200 Ton Offshore (Unlimited Passenger) RYA Yacht Master license with all the required SMTC 95 safety training certificates and BVI Captain’s license. He knows how to make even first-time sailors feel safe, comfortable and at home away from home. He enjoys sharing his passion for water sports. Whether the choice is kayaks, paddle boards, snorkeling or diving, Jeffrey assists with patience and humor. His guided tours and underwater photography are described as amazing. And when it’s time for sundowners, his amusing anecdotes and signature cocktails are the perfect ending to each extraordinary day aboard MAGIC INSPIRATION.
Chef/First Mate Sandy Hamel
Sandy is a small town girl from central Massachusetts. Every summer she helped her parents, brothers and sister pack up the camper and head to the shores of the Atlantic on holiday. It was a her happy, childhood introduction to the ocean. In classic New England style, the family vacation included the annual lobster feast. Sandy’s parents were both excellent cooks and she always volunteered to help out in the kitchen. In this way she learned and perfected the many wonderful recipes passed down for generations.
Prior to attending Southern New Hampshire University Sandy worked as a chef in a nursing home. This taught her to prepare meals for many different dietary needs and restrictions. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business and went on to a successful career in high-tech marketing for global companies including Microsoft. Traveling internationally on business allowed her to add numerous recipes to her portfolio and later replicate many wonderful meals. She also completed an Oenophile course and is an expert at paring the perfect wine. Recently, Sandy has been the chef for themed summer events held at a lighthouse off the coast of Maine. She planned and prepared menus for events on Craft Beer, Knitting, Writers Workshops, and New England lighthouse history, including a weekly lobster bake on the rocky shore. This summer, she is in Alaska, managing a 104 bed Historic Inn and Seaside Lodges, welcoming guests from around the world and exploring a very beautiful state.
Sandy can exquisitely prepare anything on a preference sheet, but guests aboard MAGIC INSPIRATION absolutely rave about her fish dishes, like roasted Sea Bass in lime cilantro sauce or lemon cream scallops. She also bakes fresh bread and desserts; orange chocolate bread pudding, chocolate lava cakes, coconut caramel pie, Pina colada cake, and chocolate cake with raspberry frosting. Guest needn’t worry about gaining a few pounds. Sandy leads running and hiking expeditions and yoga sessions on deck, or on the beach. She believes in being healthy while adhering to her motto: eat, drink and be merry. On board MAGIC INSPIRATION, it’s everyone’s way of life.
Captain Jeff and Mate/Chef Sandy have been married for 18 years, and have been sailing for 19 total years together. Sandy´s immersion into sailing was when she met Jeff in 1999. At the time he ran a sailboat brokerage business out of Cape Ann Marina in Gloucester, MA. Their journeys have taken them along the East Coast of the U.S. and to many exotic destinations such as the Bahamas, Bermuda, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, US, Spanish and British Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Panama, St Maarten, Anguilla, St Lucia, Bequia, Mustique, and St Vincent and the Grenadines. Their thirst for adventure, love of the sea, and impeccable hospitality combine to bring their charter guests magical vacations and memories that last a lifetime!

Fun on Magic Inspiration!
Photos from snorkel trips and guests having fun in the water....Magic Inspiration invites you to share in their wonderful charter experiences.
This sailing trip and boat were magic!
My wife and I were one of two couples who researched sailing charters in the Virgin Islands. Our research that resulted in choosing Magic Inspiration, crewed by Sandy and Jeff, was totally worth it. The trip was the best. We’ve been on Virgin Islands trips before, but have never had such an accommodating crew and such wonderful meals. We chose the all-inclusive meal plan, and had 20 meals in 7 days. Every meal was different and every meal was delicious. The only times when the entire meal was not made in Sandy’s toaster oven were when we had pizzas from Pizza Pi, a sailboat anchored in Christmas Bay, and when Jeff grilled hamburgers and steaks. Imagine these toaster oven specialties: coconut cream pie, Grand Marnier French toast and sausage, tuna steak and herb rice, sweet potato hash topped with a fried egg, and more! Drinks included unlimited juices, sparkling water, and cocktails, wine, and beer. Jeff made better Pain Killers and Dark and Stormys than any we bought in the USVIs after the trip. Our 7-night sailing ports focused on St. John, Jost Van Dyke, Norman Island, the Indians (ocean rock formations with excellent snorkeling), Peter Island, Norman Island, Marina Cay, Cooper Island, and Great St. James Island. Jeff found ideal snorkeling sites and places where we could noodle float and paddle board. We were lucky, with perfect weather every day, only one brief afternoon shower, and relatively calm seas. Jeff is an accomplished sailor – there’s nothing he can’t handle. Sandy makes a perfect “first mate” when mooring, anchoring, and helping with the sails. AND she is an excellent yoga instructor – twice during the trip, one on land and one on the boat’s trampoline bow. One important tip – the Magic Inspiration is plenty big enough for 6 guests and crew. The boat is clean, well-maintained, and Jeff can repair almost anything on the boat that may go wrong. But what made a difference on this boat is the “ventilation ports” in the cabins that allow nighttime breezes to make sleeping more comfortable. We found out later that not all catamarans have such ports. Usually, I find something negative about every hotel and restaurant that I review. This boat comes closest to perfection in sailing, in every way.
All I Can Say is
We just returned from a week aboard Magic Inspiration with Sandy and Jeff and all I can say is WOW! We live in North Carolina and it was 28 degrees when we left. Arriving to 80 degree temperatures was wonderful in December! We were greeted on the beach in Red Hook at noon on day 1 and left all our stress (and electronic access) right there in the sand. Internet access is available on board, but we chose to only check when necessary, and I highly recommend ´unplugging.´
Sandy is an amazing and creative chef. What she can cook in her small oven was simply impressive. Ingredients were fresh, planned around our likes and dislikes, great variety and simply delicious. Jeff was our bartender and now has me hooked on Painkillers with fresh nutmeg!
Jeff is a very accomplished captain and really handled some of the weather challenges we had. He kept us clear of rough seas and we were almost always able to sit on the trampoline during our travels between the islands. He showed us some really great snorkeling spots, beautiful bays and provided a lot of history on the islands. From the parrot fish to the sea turtles, the ´bait ball´, pelicans, frigates and Barry the barracuda, we got an up close and personal experience with the wild life.
Magic is a beautiful boat and was the perfect fit for us. Recently overhauled and freshly painted, the boat is immaculate and Sandy and Jeff take great pride in her and it shows!
If you are looking for a stress free, relaxing vacation in a beautiful place, book a cruise on Magic Inspiration!

A perfect week, thank you so very much!
Wow! That was an awesome vacation! Thank you Jeff & Sandy for a lifetime of great memories that our family will cherish. Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty, I can´t thank Jeff enough for speeding 26 miles back & forth across the rough straights in the dinghy at the outset of our trip in an effort to resolve a visa issue for our Colombian au pair; meanwhile, we lounged on the boat at beautiful anchorages, dove the nearby reefs & hiked through the sugar plantation ruins.
A real highlight was our 15 year old daughter being in the right spot at the right time as a dolphin cow & calf swam leisurely over and under her while she was swimming alone back to the boat. She was starry eyed for days! The younger boys loved swimming with and feeding Barry the big barracuda as well as squeezing between the rocks and making their own tight path through the baths. Our teenage son was happy to hang his hammock from the mast and nap away much of the afternoon after diving.
As a restaurateur, I usually look forward to returning from vacation to eat my own good food again; however, I have to give Sandy lots of credit for her delicious and perfectly portioned meals. The whole family loved her food. We did a half board, and I felt the food on the boat was better than the resort restaurant stops.
Jeff & Sandy are great people who´ve made a fantastic transition from busy corporate executives
to laid-back sailing hosts. Jeff´s a great sailor and we were always in the right anchorage at the right time. We hope to be back soon!

A Wonderful Family Vacation
Thank you so much for all you did to make ours a wonderful family vacation aboard Magic Inspiration. We had a terrific time and truly appreciated the exquisite attention to every little detail - it was (literally) ´smooth sailing´ from start to finish.
On your boat, we were all able to disconnect from devices and social media and spend quality time together as a family. We enjoyed it all - snorkeling, paddle-boarding, swimming, hiking, hanging out on the trampoline or quietly reading while taking in the sun and waves.
As a ´captain only´ charter, you showed us how to use the galley kitchen and made us feel at home. Our routine of breakfast and lunch on board, followed by wonderful dinners ashore (based on your excellent recommendations) worked perfectly for our family. Thank you again for such a magical week. We look forward to a return visit!~ Abby & Spencer Reynolds
