Borrowed Bounty Crew Profile
Captain
Chef
Chris Botha (Captain)
Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Christian was raised on a diet of adventure and a deep connection to the ocean. From an early age, he immersed himself in water sports, whether it was competitive swimming during his school years or learning to sail on the idyllic coastlines of Mozambique.
Before embracing the call of the sea, Christian pursued a successful career as an Interior Architect. But the confines of a cosy office job couldn´t compete with his passion for adventure. Trading drafting tables for chart plotters, he made the bold decision to follow a lifelong dream and embark on a career in sailing, driven by his dream to one day sail every ocean on earth and as many seas as he can find.
Since earning his skipper qualifications, Christian has wasted no time gaining experience. His voyages have taken him from the rugged coasts of Sweden down to Spain, across the vast Atlantic Ocean, and into countless breathtaking sunrises and sunsets along the way.
Christian’s adventurous spirit extends well beyond the water. An avid motorcyclist, he once completed a solo 1,500 km ride from Cape Town to Pretoria in a single day. Whether hiking remote trails, exploring wilderness landscapes, or diving into anything that gets the adrenaline flowing, he embraces every challenge with enthusiasm.
A World Choir Championship gold medalist and former orchestra percussionist, Christian’s diverse background reflects a unique blend of discipline, creativity, and teamwork. He has even served as ground crew and support for aerial firefighting teams, proving his adaptability under pressure.
With a cheerful, can-do attitude and a firm belief that life’s problems are never as bad as they seem, as long as there’s a good cup of coffee to be found. Christian brings positivity, professionalism, and an infectious sense of adventure along with him wherever he goes.
Xander Botha (First Mate/Chef)
Born and raised in South Africa, Xander Botha grew up with a love for bold flavours, vibrant colours, and the joy of bringing people together around the table. His culinary journey began with formal training and three years of experience in kitchens ashore, where he honed his skills and developed a passion for creating dishes that celebrate freshness and creativity.
But the call of the ocean proved irresistible. Trading the security of land-based kitchens for the adventure of life at sea, Xander brought his talents aboard luxury catamarans, blending fine dining with the rhythm of the waves. His menus are inspired by global influences while honouring seasonal and local ingredients, delivering meals that are as unforgettable as the breathtaking backdrops they are served against.
Life at sea has given Xander the chance to merge his two passions - food and adventure. Whether preparing elegant meals for charter guests or curating menus that tell a story, he approaches every dish with dedication, creativity, and a warm touch of South African hospitality.
With his adventurous spirit and passion for creating unforgettable experiences, Xander ensures that every meal becomes more than just food - it’s a moment of connection, joy, and discovery shared around the table.

What a wonderful experience this has been. Will knew the best places to go and was able to show us the adventures of snorkeling at its finest! And the sails were beyond what I expected—so great!! Every meal Matea made was plated beautifully and tasted absolutely delicious. We thank you for making the trip so much fun. You are both wonderful people with great talents—hope to do it again! -The Carvers

December 2024
This is our fourth time to be able to enjoy a trip around the BVI and Will and Matea made it by far the best! The Borrowed Bounty is a great catamaran and Will and Matea made our Christmas adventure magical. You can tell they put so much thought into every experience. Each meal was absolutely perfect for our family of five. The Islands they chose were the perfect match for the experiences requested. Sweet Matia even knew we normally have breakfast casserole and lasagna on Christmas and surprised us with both. Will always made sure we had the best spots everywhere we went. Snorkeling and the water sports kept us all entertained! We truly feel like they are family and look forward to our next trip with them! To our next trip until then. We love you!

Will, your calm expertise and attention to detail made us feel comfortable and at ease. The two of you made an amazing team and your hospitality turned a wonderful trip into an extraordinary one. We are going home with amazing memories and dreaming of our next adventure, hopefully with the two of you!

Jake & Olivia were great. Olivia was warm and welcoming from the beginning. Jake was very accommodating with our itinerary. We had a lot of things we wanted to do/see and he graciously fit it all in and we didn’t feel rushed. He was happy to tow the kids for tubing and wake boarding several times. Once he knew we liked games, He introduced our families to a game that we’ll be playing again on our next vacation. Olivia made the most delicious food! Everything was SO good and beautifully presented. She was so sweet to accommodate some picky teen eaters as well. When i say this crew made our families feel special, i mean it. They are both so easy to talk to and be around. Olivia even gave the kids a little egg hunt for Easter Sunday which they loved!
Thank you Jake & Olivia!
