Mariann Crew Profile
Captain Mark Turner grew up in a small village in Leicestershire, England, before moving to the US over 20 years ago. When Mark first moved to the US he lived in Santa Cruz, California where he learned to sail & would go fishing for salmon and halibut in the Monterey Bay. Later he moved to Florida where his passion for being on the water & sailing lead him to become a sailing instructor. He discovered the Virgin Islands around 15 years ago and since that first visit always dreamed of living the island lifestyle. Finally in 2015 he made that dream a reality. He is really excited to share his passion for sailing and the island way of life with guests aboard Mariann.
Mark is a U.S. Coast Guard Captain, RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore, open water certified scuba diver, and a U.S. Certified Sailing Instructor. He enjoys traveling to new places and meeting people, making new friends along the way. He enjoys being on the water more than being on land, so its no surprise that his favorite sports other than sailing are wake boarding, scuba diving, surfing, and kiteboarding. On land, he also enjoys watching his favorite football team Leicester City.
Mark´s sailing experience includes sailing the Atlantic, Pacific, Caribbean, and the Mediterranean. His favorite sailing grounds, however, are right here in the Virgin Islands. His local knowledge of hidden places and local hot spots enables him to take his guests to the best places throughout the islands.
First Mate/Chef Adriane joins Mariann as a highly regarded chef working in the charter yacht industry.
As a child Adriane spent years living between Florida and coastal Massachusetts with her family. The love of travel came at a young age along with the love of the ocean and her confidence at sea. Her family had different vessels over the years and she went to summer camp on the educational schooner The Spirit of Massachusetts.
Adriane learned how to sail in the beautiful Puget Sound of Washington state and soon realized she would rather sail in the sun than the rain. She moved to the U.S Virgin Islands and got a job on a day sailboat. After several years of lovely island living she travelled to Antigua for Antigua Race Week and was surprised to learn there were non-race boats with permanent crew. That changed everything. She went on her first big delivery and has been working on traveling boats ever since.
Over the years Adriane discovered the galley and the adventure of cooking at sea. She learned the culinary language and her skills grew while provisioning all over the world. As a traveler she always explores the local cuisines, and takes courses to learn how to bring these flavors to her galley.
Mark and Adriane Cant wait to host and wow you with all the Virgin Islands have to offer.

Mariann Guest Reviews
Memorable and Special Vacation
I just wanted to thank both of you for all of your hard work in helping to make our family’s vacation on the MariAnn a dream come true for us !!! Everything was amazing and perfect from the stunning boat to the beautiful scenery, places we stopped, to the delicious food and incredible navigation by Captain Mark. We were very well taken care of and it was a very memorable and special vacation for us.
Thank you both for helping to make it happen! We definitely look forward to another unique experience on board in the future!
Each Day Was Set Up Perfectly
This was our second trip and we already can´t wait for our next trip. This trip, we stayed on the MariAnn with Mark and Heather. They were amazing hosts and quickly became great friends. Mark immediately put together an itinerary for our trip based on an initial discussion of what types of interests we have. Each day was set up perfectly to include dive trips, hikes, snorkeling, beach bar visits, and sailing. Heather´s cooking was outstanding. We had dinner at one of the nicer restaurants one night, and afterwards, were bummed that we missed out on another dinner cooked by Heather. Heather and Mark worked extremely hard behind the scene, keeping the boat looking in great shape at all times, making calls to verify dive appointments, table reservations, and I´m sure many details that we were unaware of that made our trip as great as it was. I would highly recommend this vacation to anyone, and if you have the chance to sail with Mark and Heather, don´t miss out on it.
A Real Treat
If your looking for a great way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, etc. this is the way to go. Captain Mark and Chef Heather sure know how to make every moment special. I will have to say having someone make all my meals and make my drink is a real treat! Captain Marks painkiller is a must!! Heathers meals were unbelievable. She gets an A for presentation, an a A for great taste. Thanks again for making this occasion a special one for all of us on the Mariann!
We Were Spoiled Rotten!
Our group of 8 (ages 50-60) had a great week sailing the BVI with Captain Mark and Chef Heather on S/Y MariAnn. From the moment we arrived until our departure, we were spoiled rotten. We arrived as customers but departed as friends. Captain Mark did a great job piloting us around the beautiful waters of the BVI. Chef Heather´s meals and drinks were out of this world. (And special shout out to Captain Mark for his Painkillers.) Anegada was the highlight of the trip. Don´t miss that little piece of paradise. Irma damaged the area significantly but the spirit of the people was amazing and they are up and running and happy to welcome us. Thanks also to Derek and Julianna for all the pre-trip help and advice. Overall an amazing, memorable trip which we hope to do again some day. ❤️Debbie & Peter
Way Over and Above
Having never chartered a boat in the VI before, we did a bit of research and after just one phone conversation we felt comfortable that this was a family vacation we wanted to try. . We arrived St. Thomas on December 26. After a short taxi ride to the Marina, we were met by Captain Mark and First Mate/Chef Heather. After a quick tour of our ´home away from home´ for the next seven days, we were off. We trusted Mark and Heather to select an itinerary that showed us the best of the USVI and BVI. Hurricane Irma and Maria were certainly devastating but the islands are rebuilding, the beaches still beautiful, and the waters crystal clear. They selected a nice variety of snorkeling spots, tourist attractions, and overnight stays. We felt like we were able to really get feel for the region and all it has to offer. Highlights included the Baths on Virgin Gorda, Pirates Bight on Norman Island, Pizza Pi VI in Christmas Cove, Soggy Dollar, Hendo´s, and Foxy´s on Jost Van Dyke, and the Dingy Bar on Water Island. We asked for a ´chef´ and boy did they deliver! Heather was awesome....beautiful breakfasts (scrambled egg stuffed avocado, poached eggs in ham bowls, fresh fruit, breakfast burritos......), light and wonderful lunches (jerk chicken tacos, chicken guac bowls, turkey wraps......) and delicious and filling dinners (seared tuna with wasabi tuna tartare appetizer, rib-eye steak, marinated pork tenderloin with coconut rice and mango salsa,.......). Heather is a talented and passionate chef! Of course there were ample snacks, a fully stocked bar with special cocktails, seemingly unlimited beer, soda, and wine. Finally, just before arrival into St. Thomas on our way home, my daughter had a sudden eye infection that required medical attention on the island before flying. Not only did Heather and Mark make appropriate arrangements, they showed up in the Doctors office lobby to make sure we settled and taken care of -- way over and above the call of duty! We will certainly always remember this outstanding week and of course will try to ´do it again´ in the future! A big thanks to Derek and family, Captain Mark, and Heather!
