Captain Colin Lange hails from the shores of Lake Ontario, NY where he lived out his childhood on the water learning to sail Laser’s and 420’s. He further honed his sailing skills, racing throughout New York and Canada, including three years racing in the Junior Olympics. It was during this time that Colin earned his place as a certified US Sailing Instructor, coaching youth in sailing and racing. It was while completing his bachelor´s degree and preparing to join ´the rat race´, Colin decided to confront his passions head on and shortly thereafter, moved to the Virgin Islands to begin his next great adventure as a full-time sailor. He is also a NAUI Dive Master.

Chef and First Mate Julianna Leone likes to say that while she was raised in Rochester, NY, her most formidable memories come from the summers she spent on Owasco Lake, in a cottage built by her great-grandparents. It was in the Finger Lakes in upstate New York that Julianna spent the summers of her youth swimming, adventuring and even water skiing before she could walk! As a young woman, she stayed local, attending the Rochester Institute of Technology where she got her degree in Graphic Design. In between classes should could be found going to yoga classes, painting, or cooking for her roommates (Best. Roommate. Ever.). After finishing her degree, Julianna spent a stint in the advertising/marketing agency world, but soon decided to follow her roots back to the water. This time, a little further from home. Julianna brings a fresh and colorful menu to Tabula Rasa, inspired by her passion for travel, art and the idea that food should be shared ´together´.

Colin and Julianna share a love of culture, travel, and spending time on the water. Their passion for life brought them together on an unconventional, but totally epic, career path in the Virgin Islands. Colin’s experience on a wide variety of sailboats and powerboats, along with a deep knowledge of the Caribbean Seas makes him the perfect tour guide. As a certified private chef, Julianna utilizes family knowledge passed down from three generations of Italian cooks directly to Tabula Rasa’s galley. In addition to her Italian influence, she loves experimenting with local Caribbean cuisine, gluten-free and vegan cooking as well. These two bring a high level of service, fine attention to detail and a wealth of knowledge and personality to the Tabula Rasa family.

Colin and Julianna are a passionate, motivated, water-loving team, whose specialty skills and knowledge make them your perfect crew for any and all charter adventures.

They both went out of their way to address our every request and make us feel at home on their boat.

Our cruise was in early March 2019 with four couples in their 50’s. Our captain and cook, Colin and Julianna, were a remarkable combination of professional, attentive and personable. We are experienced boaters and divers and thought Colin handled the boat exceptionally well and was a fine dive master. Julianna’s meal preparation was truly outstanding, on par with any high end restaurant. They both went out of their way to address our every request and make us feel at home on their boat.

Eight friends just spent the most amazing week aboard the Tabula Rasa with Captain Colin and Chef Julianna. Captain Colin planned out our itinerary to include the best snorkeling spots, the Baths where you climb through rock tunnels and crevices to the most spectacular views (not to be missed), to Willy T´s (a floating bar also not to be missed), to the Soggy Dollar which is a breath-taking waterfront bar! Upon retuning from our day activities, Colin would present us with his drink of the day, my favorite being the PAINKILLER!!! We are so impressed with his skills as a Captain and as a bartender. Chef Julianna could without a doubt open her own 5 star restaurant as she served delicious delicacies out of a small gallery that were mouth-water and tantalizing. Every meal was prepared with fresh ingredients with Julianna´s own ´Twists´! Some of my favorites....biscuit, sausage and gravy on homemade rosemary and goat cheese biscuits, Eggs benedict, fish tacos, crab cakes and of course all the pasta dishes that has been perfected and reflect her 3rd generation Italian heritage! Both Colin and Julianna spent the entire week catering to us, entertaining us and making this the ultimate dream vacation! I would highly recommend that if you are considering cruising the BVI´s or American VI´s that this is the couple that will make it ´a week you will never forget´! Thank you Colin & Julianna

We had a wonderful time on Tabula Rasa! Colin and Julianna were the perfect hosts. The boat was immaculate and larger than we expected, especially the common areas. They did a wonderful job of keeping everything orderly without making us feel like intruders. I can not emphasize enough how delightful and easy they were to be around. Julianna’s food was delicious! In particular, her key lime pie, ceviche with wonton chips, and the lobster dinner Colin had caught for us before our arrival! They make a great team on the boat and in the kitchen. We cannot thank you and them enough for making our vacation so relaxing and special!
