CAPTAIN | Chris Seago (South African)
A 47-year-old KwaZulu-Natal born and raised adrenaline junkie, who spent his high school years building a 32ft sailboat with his family and set sail to greater horizons after soon after. He went from island hopping in the Caribbean, Bahamas and South Atlantic to settling in Fort Lauderdale. Chris joined the yachting industry in late 1993 where he met his wife of 17 years; still happily married and in love. Chris got out of yachting for 6 years to raise a family and moved to Canada where he flipped houses. He has since moved back with his family and has resided in Fort Lauderdale for the past 8 years. When Chris is not at home spending time with his wife, 2 kids, 2 cats and a dog – you´ll most certainly find him kite-boarding, cycling or dirt bike riding. Chris joined M/Y Como in April 2017 in France, and remained aboard with the current Owners who renamed the yacht M/Y ODYSSEA.
ROTATIONAL CAPTAIN | Brett Lubben (Australian)
Growing up on the water in Sydney, Australia, Brett´s childhood days were made up of every kind of water activity. Starting with sailing dinghy racing at age 6, eventually competing nationally in 4 dinghy classes. As an adult, he has participated in offshore yacht racing, powerboat racing, worldwide ocean cruising and sport fishing for over 20 years. Prior to making the transition to yachting, Brett gained a Business degree and worked in a number of professional occupations including, building his own event management business. As a yachtsman, Brett has sailed every ocean and navigated around the world on a 12-metre sail boat. Brett has travelled to over one hundred countries. In his free time, he enjoys diving, mountain biking, yoga, cooking and reading. He brings enthusiasm and professionalism to the yachts he commands and makes it his highest priority to ensure every guest leaves his yacht with a big smile and unforgettable memories. Brett joined ODYSSEA in June 2020 and is excited for what lays ahead.
HEAD CHEF | George Cavendish (British)
31-year-old, George was born in London, UK and when he was 10 his family moved to Italy where his father worked for a yacht building company. It was there where his interest and passion for cooking and food started. After finishing his education in England, he moved to London to start working as a chef, where for years, he worked in various restaurants and high-end establishments, and eventually he opened his own small place out in the countryside of Shropshire doing farm-to-table style dining, using only local and seasonal harvests to produce an ever-changing menu. After having 12 years of cooking experience in restaurants and private catering, he decided for a change of environment. George joined the yachting industry in 2018 where ODYSSEA gave him the chance to explore the world by sea and to get local produce from around him and the generous amount of fish caught by the guests.
ENGINEER | Rowan Domleo (South African)
Rowan, a 32 year-old, born on a farm in the Midlands, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Rowan and his older brother have always been two peas in a pod and enjoyed activities such as fishing, spear fishing, martial arts or anything that gets the heart rate up and going. He also has a 5-year-old twin half brother and sister. Growing up on a farm, Rowan learned how to fix things from a young age and so it was a natural career path to join the world of engineering. Rowan joined the yachting industry in 2010 and has been aboard ODYSSEA since August 2019. Whenever Rowan isn´t having a Coca Cola, you´ll find him enjoying fixing things that other people break.
ROTATIONAL ENGINEER | Erik Aubry (Canadian)
The 37-year-old Canadian engineer, born and raised in Trois Rivières. Erik studied mechanical engineering in Québec and worked in the field for a few years. However it wasn´t long before the travel bug got hold of him, urging him to leave land behind and take on the big blue seas. Joining the yachting industry in 2009, Erik worked his way up to chief engineer, while running his own yacht repair company for over 3 years. He strives to provide the smoothest of sailing to every boat he works on. Erik joined ODYSSEA May 2020, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Erik is a lover of ice hockey and quite the coffee-aficionado.
FIRST OFFICER | Rory du Toit (South African)
Rory is a 31-year-old Capetonian with a passion for water sports and feels right at home in the oceans of South Africa. Before starting his yachting career, Rory travelled as a kite surfing instructor doing seasons in Greece , Spain and Brazil. He has been in the yachting industry for over 7 years working on a variety of vessels varying in size and joined his first vessel in the Mediterranean. Where he has since cruised the Bahamas, Caribbean , Middle East and Seychelles. Other hobbies of Rory consist of fishing and spearfishing - describing it as a sport where one must appreciate and trust the process of catching a fish. Rory joined ODYSSEA in July 2020.
CHIEF STEW | Haley de Jager (South African)
26-year-old Hayley is from Johannesburg, South Africa, where she completed her Honours degree in Psychology. She worked in a Centre for Autism for 2 years and spent a lot of time volunteering at a Crisis Call Centre and a Community Youth Development Organization, before her transition to becoming a stewardess. Hayley started her yachting career in April 2018 in the beautiful city of Antibes and joined M/Y ODYSSEA in September 2018. Like many of the crew aboard, Hayley loves being active and chose to lead a healthy lifestyle filled with yoga, outdoor explorations, and workouts at the gym. Hayley has a passion for animals and loves every moment spent with a furry friend. She developed a great love for travel and the ocean while on family vacations which were mostly oriented around scuba diving and learning about new cultures.
SECOND STEW | Claire Botha (South African)
A 24-year-old South African native who enjoys the liberation of writing and poetry, the expression of fashion, the beauty of art and photography and the freedom of running and staying active in her free time. Claire graduated from the North West University with a bachelor´s degree in marketing management after working abroad for 12 months as an au-pair. She grew up in the city of Johannesburg and is the youngest of 3 daughters. Her immense love for exploring has led her to new cities and cultures, sparking a curiosity to learn more about the unknown of the globe´s citizens. She finds herself at her happiest near the ocean. As time passed, she started delving into life after university and came to the decision of joining the yachting industry. She joined ODYSSEA in February 2019 and never looked back with even the slightest fragment of regret. Her indescribable interest in people has made yachting so much more exciting for her & getting to know the guests aboard and hearing their stories, leaves her with a deeper craving to learn even more.
THIRD STEW | Eliza Vandereyken (French-American)
Eliza is a 28-year-old French-American from California who studied Economics and Spanish at UC Davis and then pursued a Masters degree in Accounting. She started her career at Ernst & Young in California but her love for speaking Spanish eventually inspired her to uproot her whole life and move to Palma de Mallorca, Spain. After living there, Eliza realized her passion for travelling, speaking different languages, and meeting individuals from all over the world greatly outweighed her interest in accounting, so she decided to once again uproot her whole life and join the yachting industry. In her free time she enjoys photography, writing in her journal, and staying in shape by following her fitness app. She is so excited for this new chapter of her life and to meet all the lovely guests aboard this beautiful yacht.
LEAD DECKHAND | Hayden Laubscher (South African)
Hayden is a 27-year-old from Johannesburg, South Africa. He grew up fishing, cycling, and pretty much doing any sport he could get his hands on. As time went on golf and fishing soon became his favorites, but it doesn´t stop him from having a friendly game of football or touch-rugby whenever the opportunity arises. After school he followed in his father and brother´s footsteps and studied Accounting. A craving for the outdoors always had him staring out the window. Living his dream of working outdoors, Hayden has
enjoyed every minute of his yachting career, and always pushes himself to learn more and give all guests the best possible experience. Hayden joined ODYSSEA in May 2018 and has loved every minute since.
DECKHAND | Derron Nicholls (South African)
Derron is a 24-year-old from Johannesburg, South Africa. He grew up on the sports field playing rugby and running athletics. When he wasn´t playing sports he either had a skateboard or camera in his hand practicing videography and photography. After school Derron went on to study a business course and got a degree in marketing. However, his true passion has was the ocean, through Derron´s studies - the idea of working on a yacht interested him. Derron joined ODYSSEA in January 2020 and has started his
