Alegria Crew Profile
Captain
Chef
Captain Jorge Luis Uscanga Ramon
Captain Jorge brings an impressive 30 years at sea to M/Y Alegria - 15 years in deep-sea merchant shipping and 15 years in the yacht industry. The Mexican-born captain has skippered a wide range of vessels, from a 92ft Hatteras sport fisherman to Azimut, Ferretti, Sea Ray, and Pershing yachts, cruising extensively through the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, the Bahamas, and the Exumas, with deliveries as far as St. Barts, St. Maarten, and the Dominican Republic. He holds certifications in Dynamic Positioning, GMDSS, Radar & ARPA, and Ship Security, among others. For Jorge, navigating well and delivering great service go hand in hand - he prides himself on giving guests all the information they need to make the most of their time on board. His favorite cruising grounds are the Exumas and the Dominican Republic, and he considers becoming a captain - and a father - the highlight of his career. Off duty, Jorge doesn´t drink or smoke; he enjoys cooking and fishing, and is known among crew for his calm, detail-oriented approach and genuine hospitality.
Chef Jose Alfredo Maqueda Morfin
Chef Jose was born in Zamora, Michoacán, Mexico, and holds a degree in Culinary Arts from Cancún, along with certifications from Le Cordon Bleu in Mexican cuisine, international cuisine, and both basic and intermediate pastry and baking. After training at a French restaurant, he began his yachting career in 2010 aboard a 40ft Sea Ray, followed by three years on a Sunseeker, twelve years aboard a 126ft Sanlorenzo, and three and a half years on a 100ft yacht - bringing over 15 years of experience cooking on private and charter vessels ranging from small sport boats to superyachts over 100 feet.
His menus span everything from elevated breakfast classics to ceviches, sashimi, Mar y Tierra brochettes, and grilled steaks and lobster, with a strong foundation in Mexican, French, and international cuisine - and he´s always happy to prepare special requests. What he loves most is seeing guests enjoy and appreciate his cooking. His favorite destinations include Monaco, Bonifacio, St. Barts, the Dominican Republic, and Miami, and he counts his adaptability across many different owners as a career highlight. A father of three, Jose is known for his warmth, responsibility, and team-first attitude in the galley.
Deck/Engineer Edson Zenen Delgado Acevedo
Edson holds a Marine Engineer degree from the Nautical School of Tampico, Mexico, along with his First Engineer Officer Unlimited and Chief Engineer Limited (up to 3,000 KW) certifications. He brings over 12 years of commercial seagoing experience - including extensive DP2 offshore work on PSVs and pipe-layers in the Gulf of Mexico - combined with several years in the yacht industry, having served as Chief Engineer, Second Engineer, and Deck/Engineer aboard vessels including M/Y Freedom, M/Y Santosh, M/Y Arthur´s Way, M/Y King Benji, and M/Y Alegria. He´s skilled across engine room watchkeeping, diesel and diesel-electric systems, electrical and hydraulic systems, water makers, HVAC, and maintenance software such as NS5, Bassnet, and AMOS - paired with hands-on deck maintenance and tender care. A career highlight was a two-month stint as Chief Engineer during dry dock on a 47m vessel, overseeing the full maintenance program. Edson is currently working toward his unlimited Chief Engineer certificate, with his sights set on leading an engine department on a larger yacht. Guests and crew know him as patient, hospitality-minded, and always ready to go the extra mile.
