Ad Astra Crew Profile
Brad started his sailing career when he was 10 years old. He didn’t realize that it was going to be a way of life at that age, but has made his way around the world sailing and working on various type of sailboats, ships, yachts, paddleboats, and anything in between that floats. Growing up racing sailboats on a national platform, he quickly moved up the leader board. Racing on the Varsity Team at Texas A&M at Galveston, he secured a Sloop National Championship, and was a podium finisher at numerous National Events. Outside of college sailing, he has been apart of multiple Jboat World Championship campaigns, Olympic class Regattas and qualifiers (Laser Class), National Championship’s (dinghy’s and keelboats), offshore races on bigger boats (including a Traspac), and still loves to take a sunfish out on a Sunday Afternoon.
After a taking long sabbatical that involved searching for isolated waves on the Pacific coast of Central America, he attended a Merchant Marine Academy, obtaining an Marcharnt Marine Officers License, where he began working on commercial ships. Having completed a few Pacific crossings on cargo vessels, and getting rides from helicopters to 935’ Dill Ships in the Gulf, he realized he belonged back on the sunnier side of the industry- sailing vessels and private yachts. Since then, he has worked on private yachts and sailboats, the latest ones being a 50ft catamaran, where he ran surf charters off of the Pacific side of Nicaragua for two years after delivering her from St. Marteen, and a private 100’ motor yacht that he was co-captaining.
Safety culture is second nature to him and you will feel comfortable and confident as you cruise the islands with Brad. He has also spent years teaching and coaching sailing, and loves to share his knowledge to all of his guests, so feel free to get some sailing lessons while you are onboard!
Other fun facts: Brad was a played a major role in starting and developing the Abaco Junior Sailing Association, a nonprofit, where he created a curriculum, coached sailing, and oversaw operations in the Abaco, Bahamas for years. He has made family and friends in the Abacos and looks forward to the out islands rebuilding, and helping every chance he gets. When not on a boat, you can find him Kitesurfing, Surfing, diving (PADI certified), spearfishing. If you catch him on land, he loves to ride motorcycles, bicycles, enjoys to stay healthy, active, and being around good people (and dogs)!

She is also a certified free diver, yoga enthusiast, and has sailed across the Atlantic, as well as other long-haul passages. Beyond cooking, she is excited to bring an amazing sailing experience with top notch hospitality.
Chef Michelle will be on board through April while the boat is Bahamas based. When the boat relocates to the USVI, Chef Julie will be on board for the remainder of the season.
Julie began her journey in the Hospitality Industry as a Flight Attendant. Over the following 10 years she expanded her skills, working in the Food and Beverage industry as a waitress and restaurant manager. Review from the crew´s previous yacht -
My wife and I recently returned from a week aboard the Trance Atlantic with some friends of ours. This is something that I’ve been wanting to do for years and I can tell you it very much lived up to my expectations. If you’re on the fence about this I would highly recommend you take this trip. First off, Adam and Emily were fantastic. They were very fun to hang out with and very knowledgeable of the islands. They took us to all the hot spots, but also a couple more secluded beaches. I’ve been to several places in the Caribbean and the beaches here are equal to and in most cases much better than anywhere I’ve been. The white sand and turquoise water are spectacular! I had many enjoyable conversations sitting next to Adam and Emily while they were driving the boat to the next stop. They were both always so courteous and making sure we had everything we needed. The boat was very well kept and exactly as advertised; They are both meticulous about keeping the inside and outside of the boat clean.
The FOOD!!!! Food is not a top priority for me when I’m vacationing, but the food that Emily created out of that tiny kitchen was astonishing. Emily take a lot of pride in her cooking, and it shows. I have never had food that good at home or on vacation. Easily the best meals I’ve ever had!
My wife and I take a beach vacation every year and typically try to go somewhere we haven’t been before. There have been a few spots that I told her I would like to go back to someday, but this may very well become our “go to” spot from now on. As great as the boat was, I can’t imagine doing this again without Adam and Emily crewing the boat, I sure hope they are still crewing a boat when we do this again. By the time we left it felt like we were leaving good friends, so I’m pretty sure no matter what boat they are on in the future we will be booking that boat! Thanks again for the fantastic week Adam and Emily and we can’t wait to do this again with you guys in the future!
Review from the crew´s previous yacht -
We just returned from what was easily our best vacation ever...Trance Atlantic is a beautiful boat and we could not have asked for a better crew, Adam and Emily were exceptional. Adam is a skilled captain, meticulous with safety and considerate of everyone´s needs. The weather was a little rough the first few days, so he quickly modified our sailing plans to make sure our children were comfortable and we were able to find calm waters to play and snorkel...I´m sure Emily was a part of those decisions too! Our itinerary was full of ´off the beaten path´ adventure and once in a lifetime experiences, but we also hit the best well known spots too. Every stop was perfect and he had a great attitude with our kids. (and lowering/raising the dinghy a million times)
To call Emily ´the chef´ would be a bit misleading...she does so much more! Her food was excellent and she did a great job creating meals that were family friendly but still looked beautiful. She prepared fish and lobster straight from the ocean, breakfasts that our kids are still talking about and delicious baked goods from a tiny little oven. We joked that the dishes didn´t need to be washed because we licked them clean. Emily made great recommendations for the two nights we ate off the boat and took care of it all, even walking us to the restaurant!
Both Adam and Emily really hit it out of the park in managing to make this charter perfect for all of us, even surprising the kids with Easter goodies, an egg hunt on the boat and helping the kids prepare a message in a bottle tossed out on our last day. I could go on and on and on, but suffice it to say that we felt like we hit the lottery with our crew, we were so lucky!
Review from the crew´s previous yacht -
What a wonderful charter we had with Adam and Emily on Trance Atlantic in early April 2019. We had been hoping to do such a charter for quite a while, but found that there was a big ´learning curve´ to figuring out what boat features, crew, etc. we should prioritize, and we were getting lots of conflicting information (even about the same boats) from different charter brokers. Then we happened to get in touch with Derek Hunsinger of iYachtClub and Charter House Yacht Club, and he made the process so straightforward by providing clear, accurate information, listening to our needs and wants, and making very helpful recommendations. He was right on point in suggesting Trance Atlantic with Adam and Emily for our group of two mid-50s couples looking for relaxation but also active adventure and scenic beauty ´off the beaten path´.
Adam and Emily are a great team. Up on deck (´driving´, managing and maintaining the boat, keeping it spotlessly clean, planning the itinerary etc.), Adam is the skilled captain, and Emily is his very capable first mate. In the galley and below deck, Emily is the skilled ´captain´ (chef, entertainment and cruise director, head of housekeeping, etc.), while Adam is her very capable ´first mate´ (sous chef, dishwasher, scullery maid, etc.). Their teamwork is seamless, and they make it all seem effortless, although we saw the long hours they put in each day (and night) making sure that pretty much all of our needs and wants were satisfied. They´re also both friendly, approachable, interactive and just fun to talk with and be around. But they also gave us plenty of ´space´ and time for ourselves on the boat, on shore and in the water. Adam made sure that the itinerary included great sites to visit as well as requested activities: snorkeling, paddle boarding, sightseeing in somewhat ´off the beaten path´ locations, fishing, sailing, shore excursions, etc. He also immediately addressed some boat maintenance/repair issues that cropped up (he hadn´t been aware of them as this was Adam´s and Emily´s first charter on Trance Atlantic). Emily´s creations as chef and bartender were amazing: we were treated to three fine-restaurant style meals plus afternoon hors d´oeuvres each day, various standard cocktails plus her own creations based on what we said we like. The presentation was always lovely, and she used several cooking techniques that you wouldn´t expect on a boat, like sous vide cooking followed by flash-grilling of beef steak and pork. Adam was always handing us a beer, wine, soda or water, right before we even realized we were thirsty. Like magic. We really felt pampered and taken care of; didn´t need to lift a finger if we didn´t want to, but were also welcome to help out with whatever tasks we were interested in. Great attitudes in this regard from both Adam and Emily; they are very skilled in the art of customer service!
The boat was great as well: comfortable, spacious, beautiful, and stable underway and moored. We loved the different lounging areas (salon, cockpit, ´bikini lounge´ on top of the cockpit bimini, foredeck, trampoline) that provided plenty of space for all of us together, or two separate couples, or individuals to relax together or individually whenever we wished. Below deck, the cabins were spotlessly clean, and the b eds and bedding were very comfortable. The starboard ´owner´s suite´ was amazing; tons of space and comfort.
We absolutely loved our most relaxing vacation EVER with Adam and Emily on Trance Atlantic.
